This article provides a visual reference guide to the email forwarding interface in DNSimple.

Email forwarding tab

Email forwarding is applied on a per-domain basis. Before a domain has any email forwards, its tab shows what email forwarding includes and what it costs.

  1. tab - Email forwarding management options for the domain.
  2. Forward any email to your preferred inbox section - Explains what email forwarding does and lists what is included for the domain under your plan.
  3. button - Click to create your first email forward and enable email forwarding on the domain.

Email forward creation form

When creating a new email forward, you will see the following fields and options:

  1. New email forward form - Used to enter the information for the email forward.
  2. option - Select this option to create a catch-all forward that captures messages sent to any address at your domain that has no email forward of its own.
  3. option - Select this option, then enter the part of the address before the @ (e.g., hello for hello@yourdomain.com). Do not include the domain name.
  4. field - Enter the full email address where messages should be forwarded (e.g., yourname@gmail.com).
  5. button - Click to create the email forward.

When you create an email forward from the dashboard instead of the domain page, the form also has a list above . Only domains that resolve with DNSimple appear in the list.

The form also reminds you that DNSimple adds the DNS records that email forwarding requires and removes the existing MX records of the domain.

For step-by-step instructions on setting up email forwarding, see How to Set Up Email Forwarding.

Email forwards list

Once a domain has email forwards, the tab lists them:

  1. tab - Email forwarding management options for the domain.
  2. Email forwarding card - Lists every email forward on the domain and shows how many more you can add under your plan.
  3. Email forward - The address at your domain, followed by the address it forwards to. A catch-all forward shows as Catch all forwarded to and the destination address, with a label.
  4. menu - Opens the actions for that forward: to change the address at your domain or the address it forwards to, and to remove it permanently.
  5. button - Click to add another email forward on the domain.

Email forwarding limits

Email forwarding costs $2 per domain per month. The number of email forwards and forwarded messages allowed per domain depends on your plan: Solo includes up to 10 email forwards and 1,000 messages per month, Solo Pro up to 15 email forwards and 5,000 messages, and Teams up to 25 email forwards and 10,000 messages. See Email Forwarding Limits and Quotas for details.

Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) support

The email forwarding provider does not support International Domain Names (domains with non-standard characters). You cannot use an email address with an IDN domain as a destination or to configure email forwards for an IDN domain.
