Add an SRV Record

An SRV record tells clients which host and port provide a service, such as SIP or XMPP, for your domain. You add SRV records in the record editor.

To add an SRV record
  1. If you have more than one account, select the relevant one from the account switcher at the top-right corner of the screen.
  2. On the header, click the tab.
  3. Locate the relevant domain, and click on the name to access the domain page.
  4. Click at the top right of the domain page.
  5. Click , and select .
  6. On the tab, enter the SRV record information:
    • Name: the subdomain the service belongs to, without the domain name. Leave it blank for the root domain.
    • Service: the symbolic name of the service, such as sip.
    • Protocol: usually tcp or udp.
    • Priority: lower values are tried first.
    • Weight: a relative weight for SRV records with the same priority.
    • Port: the TCP or UDP port the service runs on.
    • Target: the hostname of the server that provides the service.
    • TTL (Refresh Rate): the record time-to-live.
  7. Click .

The record editor opens with the message , and the new record is in the list.

Example SRV record form:
Add SRV record form with sip, tcp, priority 10, weight 20, port 5000, and target sip-server.example.com

The example results in this SRV record:

_sip._tcp.example.com. 3600	IN	SRV	10 20 5000 sip-server.example.com.

Note

SRV records create Empty Non-Terminals at names like _tcp.example.com. If you use wildcard records in the zone, see Wildcards and Empty Non-Terminals.
